Wow!! i love your observations in this post. Especially your reflections on blending the online and f2f environments. I have always held that designing is much more difficult to design than a full online course because you have to be effective in 2 environments and you have to design activities that leverage the options and limitations of both environments...it just is much more complex.

I am thrilled that you took on this challenge. And i was glad to have the opportunity to observe you along the way.

Thanks.

Aubrey: I am thrilled that you had your brother review your course. How cool is that!!! Your blog posts have been great and given me perfect insight into your progress and your thinking. I am so grateful for your willingness to be vulnerable and to show us all what you are thinking and learning.

You should be proud and confident.

Thanks.

Thank you Aubrey for sharing everything you have in this post and your blog. I am so sorry to hear about your cousin.

This course has been an incredible learning experience for me too. I hate moodle as you may know from my blog, but have done my best to make it do what i want it to do. I wish i had a moodle expert to help me figure out if i am doing everything as best as i could be doing it. ...

I have put huge amounts of time into developing and teaching/managing this course. Tuesday night i only got 2 1/2 hours of sleep and there have been many other all nighters during the development and delivery of the course so far. I take it very personally. (Thank god there are only 8 of you!!) I feel responsible for you and your learning experience. This is an area in which i am nationally recognized and want to be sure everything i do represents in practice what i preach... and at the same time I am struggling and critical of myself and the course design that requires so much of me to manage. Part of it is moodle (which i HATE) It takes me days to track tally and grade the discussions. DAYS!!!!!!!!!! it is all manual. and sooooooooo frustrating. If moodle tallied it up for me and sucked it into the gradebook things would be so much easier. I also have to keep asking myself how i can make sure that you are the ones doing most of the learning.

Thanks for your feedback, your thoughts and you participation in the course. You and everyone in this course have been amazing.

hey aubrey:
to improve your blog add links to the other students in the course blogs in your link roll and to mine : )

also, delete the default links in your blog roll to wordpress stuff
also, put something in your about page. so "we" know who you are.

You should also begin to categorize your posts, or elliminate the link in your sidebar. (but i suggest you begin to categorize and then also tag your posts. It is a good habbit to get into. and will help to organize, search, and present your blog well.

thank you aubrey for letting me see your thoughts. you have a strong articulate self-reflective voice.

fyi - 7 plus minus 2 modules is just a rough guideline... ultimately you have to do what works for you, your content, your students, your circumstances... same with the paper and pencil activities in the manual... there is not just one way to do things ... i just present some guidelines and suggestions. ultimately though whatever you do, it has to work for you. You are doing a great job thinking things through. : )

Thank you for sharing your process and your feedback. I hope that by documenting this in your blog it is as valuable to you as it is informative to me.

Amy... this is a great post. Thanks so much for your thoughtful reflections and honest feedback. I really appreciate your comments and will keep them in mind when i review and revise the course for next time. If you read early posts in my blog you will see that i struggle with the amount of work required for this course and also with trying to model effective practices for you with the course itself... I am learning a lot through this process too, and so am interested in what you think from the student perspective. I know this is a demanding course. I have high expectations. So far I think you are all doing an amazing job.

(NB. there are a minimum of 2 blog posts required (one per week) at the end of each week in a module.)

Aubrey(4),
I too think that you hit the nail on the head about getting started with this course. It felt like too many things were coming at us without enough time to absorb it all and put it to use. I'm still wondering if my blog is set up correctly. Could you go to mine and make a comment as a test?
thank you,
Geralynn (3)

Hi Aubrey (4)

I am wrapping up the CDIT program here as well and I have learned a lot about different strategies and tools. However this course has brought a lot of new information to me in a whole different format that has forced me to relearn a lot in the lines of how to work an online course. Moodle feels very different from SNL and Blackboard so it will take some getting used to.

I also found diigo to be a really fascinating and useful tool. Being able to share web pages, highlight and create side notes has made reading off screen more practical and enabled me to point out different parts of web pages to other people. I think its a great tool and look forward to trying out software like twitter and second life.

The ratings we are to do in discussions are something new to me as well, but I really see the benefit in doing so. It makes me look much more closely at the rubric to understand our evaluations and I'm sure it will help when I create my own rubric for my online class.

Thanks for sharing

Hello Aubrey (4),

You have done a terrific job with your blog. I think your description of the course activity as a "whirlwind" is well-said. All the best as you prepare to teach 6th grade music!
